HOBART'S ONLY DIRECT SHIPPING SERVICE OPERATING AT LESS THAN ONE THIRD CAPACITY

Wednesday, May 4, 2016
There are concerns a new Hobart shipping service has not attracted enough customers to be viable long term.

Six months on, the 9-day service taking goods from southern Tasmania to Sydney and Brisbane, is operating at less than a third of its capacity.

Swire commercial manager Alex Pattison said they needed to ramp up business over the next three to six months.

"Like everything we need more cargo," he said.

"We've got a ship on berth every nine days and we would like to see that supported by locals."

The ship can carry up to 300 containers, but has been transporting about 90 containers each nine days.
