FURTHER DELAYS FOR CONTAINER SHIP AT VICT

Wednesday, March 1, 2017
A DEPARTURE date for the E.R Long Beach from Victoria International Container Terminal has been put back until late Wednesday night.

The Port of Melbourne departure schedule shows the vessel, which is chartered by Mediterranean Shipping Company, set to leave at 23.59 on Wednesday March 1.

The vessel is the first laden container ship to berth at the glamorous Webb Dock facility.

Having docked in the early hours of Sunday, the expectation was for it to depart on Monday.

However, it is understood there have been some software issues relating to automatic straddle carriers.

Comment has been sought from VICT and MSC.

A fully-functional third major container stevedore is seen as significant in handling long-term freight growth in Melbourne and ensuring viable competition on the waterfront.
